Weird Tales: Das Jahr 1935

Das Pulp-Magazin "WEIRD TALES", das im März 1923 startete und deren letzte Ausgabe im September 1954 erschien, war das wesentliche Magazin für Abenteuer, Horror und Fantasy (mit Betonung auf übernatürliche Elemente) von den 1920er bis weit in die 1950er Jahre hinein.

Viele der großen Autoren und Autorinnen dieser Genres veröffentlichten den Hauptteil ihrer Kurzgeschichten und Erzählungen in diesem Magazin.

"WEIRD TALES" war ein typisches amerikanisches großformatiges Pulp-Magazin und eines der Hauptmedien der Unterhaltungsliteratur im phantastischen Bereich.

Der Name "PULP" kommt nicht von Schund, wie viele glauben, sondern leitet sich von dem billigen Papier ab, mit denen die Pulp-Magazine gedruckt wurden. 

Magazine mit besserer Papierqualität, die meistens Familienorientiert waren, nannte man "SLICKS".

 1922 gründete J. C. Henneberger, ein Fan von Edgar Allan Poe, zusammen mit J. M. Lansinger den Verlag RURAL PUBLICATIONS INC., der  Anfang 1923 neben "WEIRD TALES" auch das Pulp-Magazin "REAL DETECTIVE TALES AND MYSTERY STORIES" herausbrachte.

Die erste Ausgabe von "WEIRD TALES" (Weird = unheimlich, geisterhaft; Tales = Erzählungen, Geschichten) startete im März 1923 mit dem Untertitel "THE UNIQUE MAGAZINE“.
